Job Title: Animal Support Specialist 

Department: Animal Support

Classification: Part-time, non-exempt

Beginning Wage: $13.00/hr. - Raise after 90-day probation

Hours per week: 27.5 hours

Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., off every Sunday and Monday. One weekend off per month (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday). Holidays Off: New Year's Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. 

Purrks (Benefits): One week PTO after 90-day probation, two weeks PTO after one year, At-Cost Veterinary Care for Personal Pets, Retirement Plan after one year, and many sandpaper kisses and wagging tails.

Position Summary: Answers all incoming phone calls, schedules animal intake, enters data for organization programs, and assists visitors with our programs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Answers all incoming phone calls, listens and responds to voicemails and emails in a timely, problem-solving manner. Screens incoming calls and directs phone calls to appropriate staff and departments.
  • Provides appropriate documents to visitors according to the program or service. 
  • Effectively enters data into organizational software about certain offered programs.
  • Directs visitors as needed to appropriate areas or with the completion of program forms.
  • Maintains records about programs as directed.
  • Maintains incoming payments as cashier and point of sale at the front desk.
  • Maintains a clean reception and lobby area.
  • Receives mail, documents, and packages
  • Greets visitors upon entrance with a friendly and positive attitude.

Provides professional client and volunteer care   

  • Represents the Fayette Regional Humane Society professionally and courteously at all times. Provides quality service to clients, volunteers, and staff, recognizing their contributions to the success of our organization
  • Actively promotes the Fayette Regional Humane Society programs and events to clients and volunteers
  • Refers clients to appropriate staff for service

Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

 Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Able to read and understand instructions
  • Able to work with animals, disinfectants, and cleaning supplies
  • Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs; stand/walk for long periods; bend, kneel, restrain animals; exposure to noise, allergens, chemicals, and potential bites/scratches

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of people
  • Ability to work with a computer and operational software
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions
  • Detail-oriented and able to prioritize and perform duties efficiently and effectively
  • Able to multitask

Working Conditions

This position involves frequent interaction with animals that may be sick, injured, frightened, aggressive or neglected. Employees may be exposed to emotionally difficult situations, including animal illness, injury, euthanasia, cruelty investigations, abandonment, and other circumstances that may cause emotional stress or compassion fatigue.  Work may involve exposure to animal waste, odors, cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, allergens, zoonotic diseases, loud noises, and varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Physical demands may include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, restraining, and handling animals of various sizes and temperaments.  Employees may need to operate computer or office equipment.  Employees must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and exercise sound judgment while maintaining professionalism and humane treatment standards. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response situations as required by operational needs.  The facility operates seven days a week.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position in accordance with applicable law.
