Turtle’s miracle? You made it happen. 🩵

August Love Story: Turtle — A Heart Held Together by Hope

Shortly after Turtle came to us, she started struggling to breathe. At first, it looked like something treatable, but even with care, she didn’t improve.

So we turned to one of the incredible veterinarians who partners with us — someone who donates their time and expertise to help diagnose the toughest cases. They took X-rays, and what they found was nothing short of shocking.

Turtle had a pericardial diaphragmatic hernia — a very rare, life-threatening condition where her intestines had pushed through a hole in her diaphragm and wrapped around her heart. Most vets might see a case like this maybe once or twice in their entire careers.

Without surgery, she wouldn’t survive.

But the surgery happened. Right here.

The amazing veterinarian gently repositioned Turtle’s organs — even though her liver had fused to the outside of her heart. They carefully separated the liver, controlled the bleeding, and closed the hole in her diaphragm. It’s the kind of surgery that would cost $15,000 or more at an emergency hospital.

But because of your compassion and the generosity of our volunteer vet, Turtle made it through surgery. She rested. She healed. She fought.

And now — she’s home. 🩵

And sometimes, love writes the most beautiful ending of all: Turtle was adopted by the very man who first found her and brought her to us. The one who refused to look the other way. The one who believed she was worth saving.

A princess reunited with her knight in shining armor.

Turtle’s life was saved not only by medical miracles, but by YOU. Your support made her surgery, care, and recovery possible.

Thank you for giving her the chance to survive and the happy ending she so deeply deserved.
