Charlie — The Cat Who Finally Belonged
When Charlie first came to us, he was every bit the image of a forgotten street cat — skinny, matted, and sick. His fur was patchy. His skin was raw and inflamed, possibly from a chemical burn. He looked like a cat who had been through too much, for too long.
He was also FIV, or feline immunodeficiency virus, positive. It’s not contagious through contact, such as sharing food or water bowls, but it weakens a cat’s immune system over time. Sadly, potential adopters often shy away from FIV+ cats, afraid of what “positive” might mean.
But Charlie? He was nothing but gentle. A total sweetheart who was patient during his medical care and grateful for every head scratch.
But week after week passed, and still Charlie waited, overlooked again and again.
Until one day, we realized something — Charlie already belonged. Right here. With us.
So we gave him an inside promotion, from longshot adoption case to our official ambassacat.
Now, Charlie spends his days lounging on desks, greeting visitors, supervising paperwork, and curling up in quiet spots like he’s been doing it forever.
And he continues to receive loving care from his co-workers. The skin that was once raw and painful is now growing back in peace, not pain.
He’s not just surviving anymore. Charlie is home.
And that only happened because you made it possible.
Your kindness gave Charlie the treatment he needed. The safety to rest. The space to be loved, just as he is.
Thank you for believing in the ones who’ve been overlooked. Thank you for giving cats like Charlie the chance not only to be rescued, but also to belong.
PS: Charlie would love for you to stop by for a visit and welcomes your best head skritches!
